I first became possessed by Oriental Cats in the Spring of 1990, when a beautiful kitten came into my life. She was a chocolate silver oriental spotted tabby, (or so I thought). Her silver was as clear as the moon and she was covered in chocolate coloured spots.......she was exquisite.
By the time Chelsea was about nine months old, almost all of her spots had disappeared, and it became obvious, (as I was reliably informed) that she was an extremely good example of a chocolate silver oriental shaded. Incidentally her pedigree name was Adhuish Spotzername....not the best name for an oriental shaded, but still, once registered as a kitten, with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, the name could not be changed.
Chelsea was hastily re-registered as a chocolate silver shaded, (43bs) and over the next few months, she gained several Merit Certificates at various Cat Shows, and was one of the ten qualifying cats enabling the Oriental Shadeds to proceed to Provisional status.
Sadly Chelsea did not prove to be a very successful breeding queen, producing only one kitten before she was spayed.
So this is where it all started, and since those early days, I have been devoted to breeding and promoting the Oriental Shaded variety.
Chelsea died when she was eleven years old. She was sadly missed by us all, and not least by her feline companions who then had to decide who was the new "head of the shed"!
